This weeks Hot News

.Happy New Year:  to all villagers and readers of this column. This year will be a challenging one for many of us but whatever happens do support the events organisations put on for your benefit by coming along and seeing what is on offer. Committees work extremely hard to provide social events for residents, they are all volunteers and no one receives payment for the work they do and often precious little thanks.  So to all those who do help in whatever way and on whatever committee or in any capacity in and around the village a new year’s thank you.

Gingerbread Nursery:  The nursery has opened again after the Christmas break.  If anyone has a child they wish to book in please telephone 01525 270340.

Community Centre:  This is available to hire in the evenings and weekends. If anyone wishes to book the hall please call Alison Sheehan on 01525 270023 to see if it is available.

Rubbish collection: This week it was yesterday (Monday 5), next week it will be on Saturday 10 January.  The next collection of bottles, plastics and paper is not until Friday 16 January.  There are several glass recycling bins in The Dolphin car park for use by residents.

Mobile Library: The mobile library is back in the village on Wednesday 7 January between 11.45 and 12.15 pm. If you miss this date the next one is January 21.

Coffee Mornings: This starts again after the Christmas break on Wednesday in the Methodist Schoolroom at 10.30 am until 11.45am.  All welcome.

Parish Council meeting:  The January meeting will be held on Monday January 12 at 7.30pm in the community centre, all electors are welcome to attend.

Women’s Institute:  A brief reminder that the WI will be meeting on 13 January when Emily Heale will be talking to members about hypnotherapy in medicine.

Church services: There will be a Covenant service in the Methodist Church taken by Revd Jim Gorringe and Revd John Waller on Sunday 11 January at 3.00pm. There is no service in St Luke’s.  Both churches looked wonderful over Christmas thank you to all who helped decorate them and to all who attended the Christmas services.

Lent:  There will as usual be a Lent course, this year it is entitled ‘Lentwise – spiritual essentials for real life.’ It asks the questions: Where are we going in life? What really feeds me? How can I make sense of my everyday life? What makes me feel safe? How do I avoid getting burned out?  If you are interested in taking part this course which will run on Tuesdays between 2.15- 3.30 pm contact Revd John Waller or Revd Jim Gorringe who will provide further details.

Thank you:  a huge thank you to everyone who took part in any of the Christmas and New Year activities, parties, church services, and especially to those who played an active role during any of the events mentioned in this column in past weeks. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Deepest sympathy: The Sports Club committee send deepest sympathy to the Joyner family.  Dick Joyner died on 22nd December very suddenly.

Presidents v Chairman’s football:  This was won by the President’s team on Boxing Day.  The final score was nine goals to one!  Former President of the Club Gordon Clay presented the cup to Hazel Turner, the current president.
