COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION NEWS
Auction:
The Community Association will be running a fifty fifty auction on Saturday May 8th. For those unclear what this entails villagers look out good quality items to sell and take it to the Community centre the night before the auction, if the item is sold fifty per cent of what the item makes goes to the owner and fifty per cent to the community centre for the urgently needed repairs, which have been so generously helped by the Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd (WREN). If the item remains unsold the owner takes the item home. A full list of rules will be available in SH News, look out for the information. Teas and coffee will be available on sale day. The committee would be very grateful to anyone who can offer support for the auction. Is there anyone who would like to make tea and coffee for those attending, or cataloguing items as they come in or are sold? If so do ring David Webber on 270409, Alison Sheehan on 270023, Hazel Turner on 270404, Keith or Valerie on 270361, or see Kate or Eileen at the Methodist Coffee Morning.
One Hundred Club:
In addition to the auction the Community Association are setting up an 100 club. It is hoped that 100 units will be sold so that a monthly and quarterly draw may be held. The unit cost is £1 per week and can be paid any way you choose for instance monthly/quarterly or annually. The money raised based on 100 units would be £5,200 of which at least 50% will be paid in prize money. Any profit from the scheme will go towards the maintenance of the centre and the continuance of SH News which is currently delivered free to every house in the village. It would be extremely helpful if those who use the centre for any reason could help in this endeavour. Contact Keith Chambers on 01525 270361 for further information or email keithval23@hotmail.com .
Maintenance in the Community Centre:
The committee are incredibly grateful to all those who rent the building from the association, and also to Ted Andrews our caretaker. He has recently fixed the leaking roof in the garage, had Newport Locks out to mend the back door, is organising with Chris Marsh to have the strip lighting replaced, has put up some smoke alarms, and more are to be purchased, he will be tiling the utility room and hopefully covering up with paint the patch in the kitchen where the cupboard was taken down. In addition the curtains need sorting out (the sun has destroyed the linings) and a new clock is required in the hall The Association is also aware that the top windows are leaking again. This all costs money hence the need to fundraise in 2010.
